Mr. Amado J. Manduriao, Jr.

Notable Bacongnon

The 2006 Achievement award for Religious & Public Service was awarded to a man who came from a family of teachers & selfless volunteers for civic & religious services for the community.
Mr. Amado Manduriao Jr. is the third child of Amado, Sr. and Paula Jarilla-Manduriao. He was born in Manila on May 26, 1933.He finished his elementary studies from Bacon Central School in 1949, high school from Sorsogon Provincial High School and a two-year Normal Course in teaching at Albay Normal School. He graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Bicol State University from where he also took masteral units.

His first assignment was at Calpi, Bulan, Sorsogon then at Bogna, in Bacon where he was designated TIC after only one and a half years. His effort & leadership came to force when he was assigned to a very depressed school, Salvacion Elementary School. He exerted all his effort and used his talents and expertise to develop and improve the school.

After 3 years Mr. Manduriao as well as the people in of Barangay Salvacion reaped the fruits of Mr. Manduriao’s untiring and dedicated service. The school became an entry to various school competitions and earned several awards and commendations, prominent among them, the 1988 Division’s Most Effective School (Non-Central category), with 31 districts competing. On the same year, the school also garnered a plaque for having won 3rd place in the Regional Search for Most Effective School (Non-Central category). Other awards for the school followed. Mr. Manduriao himself won almost 20 awards during his incumbency as head teacher of Salvacion Elementary School. One of these is the Plaque of Commendation by Samahan Nuestra Senora de Salvacion (Bacon) Inc. Manila residents in recognition of his meritorious and dedicated service to the community contributing to the progress of the school. This was in April, 1990. He was promoted as principal when he was transferred to Sugod Elementary School. Once again, under his leadership, the school was tremendously improved both physically and academically and even became a pilot school in the Health Guardian Program.

Upon his retirement from the public schools, he was offered an administrative position in private schools. He became the principal of Sorsogon Chiang Kai Shek School for 3 years and the VIP Learning Center. However, he had to give up his work to in the private schools because he gave priority to his voluntary civic and religious services.

He was installed as Lay Minister of the Holy Eucharist in 1977 and designated Parish Coordinator of the Lay Ministers. He became one of the more sought after member of the Speakers Bureau, being a member of the Parish Pastoral Moderators. In 1999 he was elected Vice-Executive Chairman of the Parish Pastoral Council. During this time the big project was the construction and renovation of the Parish Convent. Presently he is very active with religious services as Chairman of the Commission on service of the PPC, Coordinator of the extra Ordinary Ministers of the Holy Eucharist, parish Coordinator of the Servants of the Divine Mercy and still as member of the Speaker’s Bureau.

He is a favorite of every municipal and city head of our community as committee member or consultant to various community affairs. He is the coordinator & implementor of the Dellosa Clan Foundation USA for indigent children in Bacon East Central School. And the Vice-President of the Senior Citizen’s Association in Poblacion, Bacon.

Soft spoken and unassuming, Amado Manduriao, Jr. has done so much for the community. There are countless people he has counseled, so many projects he has pioneered and helped succeed. He has encouraged civic spirited Bacongnons to donate to worthy community projects. Using his God –given gifts of talent and ability and with his untiring dedication he has contributed so much to Bacon.

Great public servant!

No inner motives, no pretensions.

Mr. Manduriao was my teacher in the grade school. He was strict but the best teacher I ever had. I am so happy that he is still doing great things to this date.

Thank you Ms. Figueroa for featuring Mr. Manduriao, Jr. a very nice unassuming human being.

Alas, only a very precious few stood out as blessings in a generation.

I wish there would be more Bacongnons who can offer their talents and hearts to the community in the same way as Mr. Manduriao did and still doing.

Thank you, Ms. Figueroa.

I knew not to underestimate that soft voice; a perfect combination with such accomplishments.
Truly a jewel to the family clan and Bacon! And his siblings are equally wonderful as well. Such blessing! I hope many would follow his commitment and dedication.

Bacon is fortunate to have him.

Thanks again Lorna for letting us aware of Bacongnons worthy of emulation. I am so proud and happy to know that there are still Bacongnons around with sterling character such as Mr. Manduriao.

Although Mr. Manduriao is older than me, I had known him personally and knew of his worthy endeavors. He is indeed worthy of emulation.

Mr. Manduriao, Sir:

I feel that at least one of the reasons we are here is to merge the physical with spiritual and then fully realize our potential. I don’t believe that we are separate from God and heaven as religion would have us believe and once you realize that, you start to realize your own potential. In doing this you realize that we are also here to love and support one another. When you help to improve the lives of those around you, you're helping to create a nicer environment for yourself as well. We all benefit. You should always go with your heart because that is the voice of GOD.

Congratulations!

El Muralla, your comment is poetic as well as profound. Indeed Mr. Manduriao deserves such commentary.

El Muralla, well said. Thank you; you have added colour to this section. If only men in these trying times would ponder upon the inner meaning you just emphasized, then the aphorisms, “Life is not perfect” and “Only God is perfect” or “We are not perfect” would not become an easy refuge for man’s indiscretions, selfish motives, and wanton disregard of integrity and character. Mr. Manduriao Jr. indeed, has a good grasp of this and to those he has reached out, indirectly or not, it has perhaps, become their invisible unguent.

Unguent means salve, soothing ointment. I was forced to look for its meaning. The first time I met the word.

Thanks sincerely Jenny.

This weeks incident in our beloved (beautiful...sabi ni Lorna Figueroa) Bacon.

A male teacher who check in at Dino's Resort in Tolonggapo with a male companion was stabbed to death. The victim was allegedly a gay and the suspect was his student lover.

Last Tuesday, November 25 at about 7:00PM, a male resident at Cabarbuhan was gunned down to death by alleged members of the NPA.

Illegal logging, tupada, robbery hold up and akyat bahay are rampant and the OIC of Bacon Police has done nothing to solve the problem nor did not give a damn to apprehend the perpetrators.

Lorna Figueroa, Amado MAnduriao and Maning Eco, could you help or initiate actions to make our former town a peaceful place to visit? A city, huh?

Thank you anonymous for bringing it up. It is a big worry especially if like me I would like to go to Bacon with my offsprings but this is exactly what stops me. No one or two or three persons can handle this without the backing of many. An anonymous 8877 in the Sandataan posting has indicated the need for organizations with some clout to start something towards helping rid Bacon of wrong moral & ethical attitudes or maybe just to put these happenings on the table for real discussions. Apparently there are many intelligent people in Bacon. I hope they don't waste their time only partying, as suggested by some remarks in the Sandataan posting.

El Muralla, your thoughts should also be posted in the Sandataan article. Then maybe those commenting negatively about some suggestions of unity and nobler purposes aside from what these groups have will somehow be awakened. Although, most comments in the Sandataan part are for the fun aspect only, period. I am disappointed that there are several Bacongnons who are only geared for baraylihan. They could not dig any deeper into their brains and hearts to find or add other good lasting efforts to combine with their clubs sosyalan for the sake of Bacon as whole, now and into the future.

The crimes committed in Bacon are appalling and of course reflects the disastrous global economy that mirrors situations every corner of the world. It also reflects the apathetic political leadership of Sorsogon City.

Sandataan, Alumni Associations and the vast majority of good people has nothing to do with it.

What should be advocated is a change of leadership which requires a charismatic political leader to challenge the entrenched
ineffective political leaders such as Dioneda or even the Lees and Escuderos.

But WHO will he be? The redeemer who will UNITE us?

Anonymous said...

The crimes perpetrated in Bacon should not be blamed on the (mythical) bad moral and ethics of Bacongnons or on their fun loving nature specially generated on an anuual basis by Sandataan and the Alumni Homecoming.

That's ridiculous.

Sandataan and Alumni have definitely nothing to do with crimes or immorality or unethical conduct. There is also nothing wrong with loving fun. Mention of these two organizations is just for the lack of an individual to begin working for changes. The point is before things go terribly wrong in Bacon, something has to be done. Since the Sandtaan and Alumni have numerous intelligent, well-known members (unless there are still I don't know about)then maybe they can start thinking of what to do to expand their help to Bacon. Underline expand, meaning they are already doing other good things. Since the problem lies on proper governance it follows that electing the right officials is of great importance. It also seems that most Bacongnons (given who they chose wrongly) are in the dark about who to select to lead them. Sandataan and Alumni can then maybe move to "educate" most Bacongnons of the importance of having good leadership. Give out leaflets about this prior to election without mentioning any candidates' names. Emphasize future. Underline the importance of good attributes in any candidate. Unite and call for meetings with the mayor or Bacon's representatives in the government in an effort to discuss how to make Bacon better,to stop crimes, to stop poverty, to motivate the citizenry towards self-betterment and cooperation. Hold essay contests among students in different grade levels with topics on proper governance, what makes a political candidate suited for a political job or how best to have a good future for Bacon; stir the minds of the future leaders of Bacon. They may sound too simple, maybe foolish to some but without anything, nothing can be done. And we can all talk what is good and what is bad with nothing accomplished.

And might I add a computer centre for Bacon where everyone is welcomed with the children monitored of course. donations of course is required.

My hats off to you. A Salute too.

You have explained very well this time. Your proposals are excellent.
They were specific and doable.

Hopefully, you will take the lead. Please count me in.

But who are you?

We have a former top notch military man-turned-mayor and can do nothing with the proliferation of crime rate and insurgency in our town? What a mess!!!

Mr/Ms Anonymous:
You ask Ronilo, our investigator in Bacon about the incident in Tolong Gapo but don't ask him about the Cabarbuhan murder, di yun mag-iimbistiga dun.

To Rene of California:

Thank you for taking interest in what I posted. I am not a pure Bacongnon given the fact that I was not even born in Bacon. I have been there several times enough to observe what is good in the place and what is also wrong and bad. I love Bacon and the humble but ever hospitable Bacongnons. This is not to say that the place is free of undesireable attitudes like diit na kahugakan, submission to moneyed residents or visitors to the extent of being proud to be seen in their company regardless of who they really are, and some may pagka-uragon dai man ki matinong gibo-gibo or are senseless. I also observed how Bacongnons love politics and are easily swayed by political candidates.

Still, Bacon is a beauty not to be squandered. I know its important and meaningful past and the very intelligent Bacongnons it has produced are comparable to those from other places. I just wish this could be made more prominent in an uplifted Bacon.
