Why there couldn't be a Filipino US President

Top 10 Reasons Why There Couldn't Be
Filipino-American USPresident
By David Letterman

10. The White House is not big enough for in-laws and
extended relatives.

9. There are not enough parking spaces at the White House
for 2 Honda Civics, 2 Toyota Land Cruisers, 3 Toyota Corollas, a
Mercedes Benz, a BMW, and an MPV (My Pinoy Van).

8. Dignitaries generally are intimidated by eating with their fingers at
State dinners.

7. There are too many dining rooms in the White House -
where will they put the picture of the Last Supper?

6. The White House walls are not big enough to hold a pair
of giant wooden spoon and fork.

5. Secret Service staff won't respond to 'psst...
psst' or hoy hoy hoy

4. Secret Service staff will not be comfortable driving the presidential
car with a Holy Rosary hanging on the rear view mirror, or the statue
of the Santo Nino on the dashboard.

3. No budget allocation to purchase a Karaoke music-machine
for every room in the White House.

2. State dinners do not allow 'Take Home'.

First Reaction: Shame & Embarassment! My beloved country made prominenty foolish and a laughing stock by the arrogance of modern entertainment.

Second Reaction: Info was given by a Filipino to the TV production or hired researcher is very keen.

Third Reaction: Suddenly saw vivid images of Flipinos not only in the country of origin but also around the world....and true, specific cases I know that support the 10 claims.

Lesson conveyed: Pinoys, please improve and "aim high" and when doing so, attach to it what may approvingly uplift the Pinoy image (without selling your souls). Class please!

Unfortunately, as with most things racial or inherent in a nation, the unrelenting absurdities and pathetic sensibilities are usually made prominent at the pretense of comedy. Seldom are admirable traits referred to with distinction. Just glad that the "crab mentality" of Pinoys was not played out as well.

Let’s not over react, this is just a joke.

My Filipino friends at work are very competitive in advancing their career.
Most of them are in the higher levels of their profession and are holding higher positions in their respective field.
They are young, smart & I know that most of them do “aim high”. They study for higher educational degree & some educate themselves w/ ongoing educational seminars, conference, symposium, on line training & so on.
They don’t need to sell their soul to advance.

I have not seen or experienced the so-called “crab mentality”. In fact I just learned this phrase recently.

I can say I am blessed w/ good Filipino friends.

John dela Cruz, I am very happy to learn of your Filipino friends. I do have the same. But I must admit that it is with bowed head that I witness with shame, in most Filipino gatherings, workplaces with some Pinoys around or in social parties of mixed races where they attend, awkward "traits" of our countrymen. Also, I have been a victim of the "crab mentality" before I was even informed of its definition. You see, I trusted our kababayans. Little did I know --- we were all good friends until with good, hard work, decency, and honesty, my career picked up before theirs did, in workplaces I thought we were lucky to be together. Later, I would learn (some directly from our boss) the false, nasty things said against me by our own kababayan. They had to bring me down by deceit. Just like crabs, in order to go up or get what they want, they had to step on other crabs, clawed them down so they can be on top of them.

Treasure the very good Pinoy friends you have as I do with a few I was able to pick from so many I met.

Could you please translate in regular, understandable terms what you just posted. I am truly lost by the metaphor you used. The Bicol version is too deep for me. Sorry. Will appreciate your explanation very much.

On a serious note, there couldn't be a Filipino US President because there is no one at the present time who has the political stature, charisma and public recognition to even dream of it. Besides, he/she has to be a natural-born US citizen. The Filipino who would be concerned with any or all of those 10 items would probably not be a natural born American anyway.

Sa iyo once upon a time:
“An karabaw na daing lugad, hapruson mo man dai nakir-ad.”
