It appears that there is a significant increase of crime everywhere in the world the past year and ever increasing the past 2 months, as per statistics.

There was no explanation as to its cause.

I can't explain it either as I am not a sociologist.

There is more crimes perpetrated in Bacon because there is more poverty, there is more people, there is also that great influence of violent movies.

Not surprising though.

where are the leaders of Bacon, and Sorsogon? where are the energetic leaders of associations expending more effort on dancing, drinking and gossiping and less on ways towards a secured, peaceful environment, and nothing on discussions with government authorities in order to help find some solutions?

it is already proven in studies around the world that poverty breeds violence, idle minds, the workshop of the devil, as we all know. charitable limos or alms are not enough.

ay, so many suggestions have been heard, so many recommendations worth trying lay in wait but most of all, too many little brains on pompous bodies still wandering selfishly, and without moving any finger, just waiting for “manna” to fall.

WHAT THEY SAID OF POVERTY:

"If the misery of the poor be caused not by the laws of nature, but by our institutions, great is our sin." ~ Charles Darwin

"It is not easy for men to rise whose qualities are thwarted by poverty." ~ Juvenal, Roman poet & satirist

"Poverty often deprives a man of all spirit and virtue; it is hard for an empty bag to stand upright." ~ Benjamin Franklin

"Poverty is the parent of revolution and crime." ~ Aristotle

"Do not waste your time on Social Questions. What is the matter with the poor is Poverty; what is the matter with the rich is Uselessness." ~ George Bernard Shaw

-----------------------------------
Fan the hot embers of poverty with enticing materialism, inequalities, society’s plummeting moral values, unguided children with overworked parents enslaved by capitalism’s greed ……. and yet we wonder why crimes are up.

And at the same time, start rubbing the stones of discontent among the well-off (not even the very rich yet), their power, greed and ego.....

Do we have enough dignified fire stations?

Violent movies are everywhere. You can't blame movies on the actions of people. You blame the parents who let their children watch violent movies and let them believe that it is ok. I think that it's ok to watch these movies, but if you're child is at an impressionable age, you have to talk to them about what they have just seen. It's the responsibility of the parent, not Hollywood (or whatever movie industry).

You can't blame put the blame on movies, books, video games, or music.

M.I. is right about unsupervised children watching movies, television and playing video games. First of all, children should be guided. The amount of supervision decreases as maturity progresses and responsibility and accountability are fully grasped. However, it also takes mature, well-balanced parents to attend to this matter (and there are other matters of concern as well affecting this).

Though the rearing and nurturing of children rest mainly on the parents, the entire equation requires the community as well. And this is where sensitive, unselfish and considerate members of society enter. Limiting the scope of their participation in bringing up desirable citizens to the relationship between crimes, violence and questionable movies, games, music and books, it is, in my opinion, careless and insensitive to purge creators of these media of entertainment and pleasure, of any blame or guilt in the rising tide of immorality and violence.

There are movies which contain sexual exploitation and horrid violence that are not necessary to carry the main plot to glorious or amazing end. In the past, it was enough to see the bright moon outside of a bedroom to let a moviegoer know something was going on. It was enough to watch that with extreme anger or desire to defend oneself against an opponent, you see the next scene with the victor, arm in hand or not, standing or leaving; you get the idea. No need for abattoir details and close-ups. Of course, there is always the shield of arts and realism raised by Hollywood, game makers, authors and publicists when voices of critics and moralists are heard. Should that be insufficient, one can argue that man has been with such intelligence to be creative. But then, has anyone asked where we draw the line for creativity? With every man’s move, responsibility and accountability follow, a failed advocacy due to real motives ---- money, power and control.

Violence and crime, revolting or subdued, have long existed. Nevertheless, with the advent of so many tools to aid man’s creativity towards the bad, why should we make it easier for the latter to seep into the moral, civic and social fabrics of society?

It will be more of a relief if we channel man’s creativity towards character-building. Did I hear boring? Oh well, we harvest what we sow.

thank you Sosyal Na S’yano for the reply. i did not mean to pass the problem to NGO’s. they really can not do anything about governmental procedures and policies. the way i see it, the citizens should also be heard, not one by one, well, maybe to a certain point but maybe groups or associations are better positioned. at dahil Bacon is not the whole country, but a basically closely-knit townspeople, can they not request as a whole (organization) to have an audience with any leader? is that not allowed? they are citizens. they are the voters. the government is for them. besides some of the officers of these organizations are elected or formerly elected politicians, if not individuals with some close ties to Bacon authorities. the way i see it, it will be extremely difficult to hope well for Bacon’s make-over, if matters are left in the hands of just the plain political leaders. with them already in their political jobs, still, under their watch, things are not moving nicely. what more if nobody tries to elbow them for better changes. things must be so AWFULLY BAD in a place if there is no solution or if not, there is just plain denial, without understanding and an attempt to ever have a solution, somehow.

Oh, dear. Bacon (& or the country?) seems like a rotten place. So, napamasid laang’s concerns are not baseless. Horrible! What is the way out now for most Bacongnons?

I read about an expanded library to be built in Sorsogon. I heard about a 2.5 million infrastructure to boost tourism in Sorsogon, Bulusan I think was mentioned.

I have not heard of anything regarding stopping crimes. How are all the improvements to be enjoyed if hooligans are all around?

Is there anything for Bacon more specifically?

Would the thugs snatch the books borrowed from the great library by students as they walk in the streets? You think tourists would come if they know they could be kidnapped for ransom?

AKO'Y NAG-IISIP AT NAGTATAKA LAMANG!

To you Sosyal na Syano:

You are absolutely right about our Mayor.

I just don’t know why he’s prioritizing the eradication of prostitution in our town according to his oath taking speech when it is not our major problem.

Could it be a territorial complex???

I do not condone women’s exploitation.
I support women’s rights.
And I am protective of women’s sensitive issues; age is one of them.

Let’s not hit them below the belt.

Makabayan said...

Kaawa-awang bayan.
