To all hardworking nurses out there, this is for you.
Any update on the Philippine Nursing Board Exams leakage?
Anyone?
Excellent! It made me smile. I know that nurses are hardworking.
The US CGFNS basically invalidated the nursing board exams with the leakage by ruling that no nurse from the Philippines who passed those board exams unless they retook those parts with the leaks. On the other hand, the nursing boards of some states required that they retake the entire exams to be licensed in their respective states. The last I heard is that the Philippine government is trying to get all those states to follow the CGFNS ruling. If you ask me, they should just invalidate the entire exams and require a full retake. After all who is to say which other part was compromised. As it is, the whole exams were already compromised.
When all is said and done, can we still expect or hope that greedy businesspeople and government officials would keep the integrity of professional board exams? I am old enough to remember when passing those exams gave such high distinction to the passers (not just the topnotchers). Those exams used to be the litmus test for professionalism. Ahhh, for those good old days.
What a TOUGH NURSE!
The allegory underscores the indispensable, difficult role of many a true Nightingale. We should be thankful for their presence. And to those who may have smeared the name/profession in whatever manner, may they be enlightened.
It is of great significance to uphold character in any profession; more so in a field where handling life is a profound, delicate, sensitive matter and the delivery of what is expected and how this stands out from the rest are actually dependent (not one without the other) not only on proper education, but also, on the warmth and goodness of the soul, of the heart; and where international acceptance should not be overlooked as well. The repercussions of any exam leakage will reverberate and will affect those who are sincere about their chosen profession. Let’s hope this news will not be used by other countries to assess our educational attainments. Any news of this kind not only compromises the profession, but also, the Filipino integrity. There are countries that already doubt our kababayans’ degrees, aptitudes and cultural dispositions, such that they undergo so much difficulty in obtaining employment deserving of their degrees and/or skills.
Just a few months ago, on another topic, nevertheless quite parallel, a foreign newspaper reported how our systems work. It was not pleasant; quite embarrassing, but I know there is truth in it. Sadly, the bottom line is also all about character.
I was just at the Garden of the Gods last month. Nice place to retire.
